When we come to collect your scrap car, you'll need to provide the following items:

  1. Photo ID of the person present at time of collection
  2. Proof of address, such as a utility bill or bank statement (dated within the last 3 months)
  3. The keys to the scrap car
  4. If possible, the V5C (log book) for the vehicle
  5. Any spare keys, service receipts, or old MOTs that you may have

When it comes to payment, the two most common options are Bank Transfer and Cheque Payment. With Bank Transfer, the money usually gets cleared within 24 hours after we pick up your car. For Cheque Payment, we'll give you the cheque right when we collect your car, but it might take a few days to clear with your bank. The specific payment method offered can vary depending on the local collections team. They'll let you know which option works best for you.

No worries! We can still collect your vehicle even if the V5C is missing. Just let us know in the comments when you accept the collection that the V5C is missing. The collection company will contact you to confirm everything.

Remember, it's important for you (as the registered keeper) to notify the DVLA in writing that the vehicle has been scrapped or sold. You can use the details provided by the driver on the day of collection to do this.

If you need to find out which collection team picked up your vehicle, feel free to give us a call. And during the collection, the person present will need to show photo ID and some form of address proof, like a recent utility bill or bank statement.

Our recovery driver will take care of Section 9 of the V5C (or Section 4 on the new V5C/logbooks issued in April 2019), which is the yellow section. They'll leave that section with you, and you'll need to sign it and send it off to the DVLA.

Within about 4 weeks, you should receive a confirmation letter from the DVLA, letting you know that they've updated their records and you're no longer responsible for the vehicle. It's important to note that you shouldn't fill out Scrap car solution’s company address in this section.

If you don't have the V5C, don't worry! You can send a letter to the DVLA instead. Just ask the driver to fill out your local team's address, or you can reach out to us, and we'll provide you with the correct address details.

COD (certificate of destruction) is a special certificate that can only be given by registered ATF (authorised treatment facility) companies. The good news is that we only work with trusted and reputable ATF companies, so if you ask for a COD, you'll definitely get one. This means you can have peace of mind knowing that your car will be recycled properly and legally.

Now, if you don't request a COD, the collection company has the option to repair and sell the vehicle instead. You can find more information about this on the DVLA website at https://www.gov.uk/scrapped-and-written-off-vehicles/where-vehicles-can-be-scrapped

Just give us a heads up about the parts you've taken out before accepting the instant quote or use the additional info box when you accept. The collection company will reach out to you and let you know if the price needs to be adjusted based on the removed parts.

If your car is nearby, you can still use your postcode to get an initial quote. But if you're unsure, it's best to use the postcode where the car is located. Either way, when you decide to accept a quote from us, we'll need the collection address details as the initial step.

The reason we need a copy of your photo ID and proof of address is because of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. This law prohibits scrap metal dealers and car breakers from paying for vehicles with cash. To comply with this law and ensure a smooth transaction, we require the photo ID and proof of address of the person present during the collection.
